After a nearly two-month long ban, the US Department of Agriculture has announced the reopening of its southern border to livestock from Mexico on Monday.
Imports had stopped over concerns of a flesh-eating parasite called screwworm.
But for many Mexican cattle farmers, the damage has already been done.
Estimated losses are running in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Al Jazeera’s Julia Galiano reports from Chihuahua, in northern Mexico.
