Severe floods are affecting towns and cities across southern Russia and Kazakhstan, after Europe's third-longest river burst its banks.

Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes, often with little warning.
The water level of the Ural River in the southern Russian city of Orenburg has reached record highs.
Officials say that the worst is yet to come in some places.

Some of the most intense flooding has occurred in Russia's southern neighbor of Kazakhstan.
The western part of the country relies on irrigation from the Ural River.
Authorities have been trying to divert water into the Caspian Sea and away from populated areas.
